So, a female friend of mine has had only one lover and since she was on another form of birth control (and I guess she felt he was clean; I didn’t ask about tests), he never used a condom. So she felt that she needs to learn how to put one on a future partner, and asked me today if the guy puts on his own?? Since I’ve only had a couple of lovers and they put their own on (I used foam in addition so I had my own thing to attend to), I didn’t know what to tell her. So, do most guys put their own on? When a woman puts it on for you, is it part of sex play (it seems more serious than that, making sure it’s properly on)? ---

My first GF that I was involved with “in that way” usually put it on when we first started, just because she was quite experienced comapred to my _no_ experience. But due to a combo factor of her having long nails, and me being…umm…larger than average, we had an unusually high occurance of breakage, so I put them on after. Once I started buying the larger-sized ones, she was able to put them on without having to use her nails to strech it, thus negating the cause of the breaking. Pretty much I put them on with my future partners, because I was the one who had them. It really doesn’t matter. If any guy is turned-off because she did/didn’t put them on herself, or did/didn’t let him put it on, he’s a moron and not worth sleeping with. ---

I’ve always put my own on, but I really don’t care who puts it on. I’ve usually got more pressing issues on my mind (oooh boy I’m getting LAID!!) ---

I’ve had it done both ways. If she likes to put it on, that’s great. If I have to, that’s no problem. ---

This is really stupid but I’m feeling a little self-conscious about the personal info in this thread, in light of the fact that I am adamantly Catholic and celibate and have been for quite some time (all my life and about 12 years now respectively). I did stray for a while there and am back on the straight and narrow. I just don’t want to seem like a hypocrite!! ---

I don’t think there is any rule of ettiquette on this. In my experience it seems to be whoever grabs the condom first, although sometimes the guys have handed them to me, and vice-versa. It is a good idea for both parties to be comfortable it, so that you’re more likely to use them. ---

My girlfriends always had problems getting the angle right and ended up launching a couple. ---

I had always thought it was the guy’s responsibility so went about taking care of it myself. The first time the girl did it for me she grabbed it out of my hand, took it from the foil and proceeded to apply it mouth-wise. I was flabbergasted and quickly became even more turned on than I was already. None of my subsequent lovers ever volunteered to replicate the act, but many of them took matters into their own hands in other ways. ---

Generally, I think the guy ought to do it. After all, he doesn’t show up each night with a glass of water for me to take my birth control pill with. I figure that if I am buying them (I’ve always got a nice stockpile, since guys tend to “forget” :rolleyes: ) and I’m buying my birth control (and taking it accordingly), why shouldn’t he? That said, some guys think it’s really hot if you put it on for them. In that case, I’m fine with it and will do it happily. ---

The last time I put a condom on a guy, he lectured me about how the lube was supposed to be on the inside… you know, to make it more pleasurable for him since they’re so uncomfortable\*. :rolleyes: \*Maybe they are. I wouldn’t know. I didn’t sleep with him that night, FWIW. Slippage, anyone? ---

Some guys don’t produce much natural lubrication (pre-cum) and a bit on the condom prevents chafing. ---

IIRC the suggestion to add a drop of lube in the receptacle end is even included on the condom-application instructions in the package. Anything to improve comfort and pleasure is a good thing, right? That said, I’ve never done it, nor been asked to. But would be happily willing. If the condoms are lubed anyway, I don’t see how an extra drop will be more likely to cause slippage. ---
