Who really wrote the bible? -Debate-

I’m sorry, but…*what??*You, who didn’t know why the Jews didn’t follow the New Testament? You, who thought that “Lucifer Morningstar” was a character in the Bible?

I don’t think so.

I have seen no evidence of that yet.

Step one - write better. It’s on you to clearly communicate your thoughts. “Who wrote the Bible” =/= “Who were the writers of the books of the Old and New Testaments”.

Step two - read the links provided.

Step three - find a section/facet of one of the articles or cites you object to, or are confused about and bring that into the discussion.

Step four - get over yourself. You’re not nearly as clever as you think. That’s just general advice for growing up.

I don’t care what you believe. I was addressing errors of logic and fact in your post. My position comes from having actually read the entire Bible, and several books on the subject of this thread. And the staff reports, of course.

Tough, but fair assessment by Grey.

As far as problems with the questions itself, it’s a very broad question to ask and answering it would be near impossible especially on an internet message board. I’m no biblical scholar and I only got a B in my intro to western religions class but my problem with the question at hand includes but are not limited to:

  1. There are lots of books. So at the very least, you’re looking for the authorship of 39 old testament books, and 27 new testament books.

  2. There are books on top of books. The 66 book bible is only the protestant bible and doesn’t include the apocrypha that the catholic bible does, which adds 7 books to the old testament.

  3. There are books on top of books on top of books. Since the bible is compiled by man, if you want to extend the definition of “bible” as religious texts that are divinely inspired there are even more books out there to determine authorship of - many of which was in the dead sea scrolls.

  4. The books span 2000 years of history and even that time frame gets a bit muddied especially if you question the mosaic authorship and try to date the oral traditions of the Jewish people even further back. That’s a lot of history to sift through, even with google.

  5. You can further expand the answer by including who compiled the bible. Various religious councils that chose which books to keep and which to discard, different editions, different versions, etc.

  6. You can also include translation as a part of authorship because the precise phrasing of the language and the words used is in itself carefully decided and done so with much scholarship as various religious ideas such as “love” carries with it various subtle connotations in the wording (iirc the idea of agape is a result of the septuigint)

It was done for effect, to show how banal your position was. But since you don’t actually hold that position, and were just saying stuff you didn’t believe it wasn’t warranted.

Your posts advocate for the cites you present. I wasn’t aware you weren’t honestly participating. I know better now.

Nah.

You should make it explicit that you don’t believe what you’re arguing, when arguing nonsense, if you don’t want correction.

So insults like this are okay, but my simple comment, however immature, deserved a Warning? Alrighty. I’m going to step out of this forum as a poster, because obviously fairness is a quality that is not held by any. I appreciate the smartass, completely irrelevant answers though.

If you have a problem with that post click the triangle to the upper right with the exclamation point in it to report the post.

Moderators don’t read everything. That said, believing you are unfairly oppressed doesn’t make you right. Even if you are singled out, you can still be wrong.

And I think you’ll find that the moderators here are as fair as anywhere on the Intarwebz.

I hadn’t seen that comment because nobody had called it to my attention (which you could have done yourself by reporting the post or private messaging it to me). We discourage personal commentary in this forum, but you’d be well advised to consider what Grey was saying rather than treating the remark as an insult. Right now you seem to be claiming a fair amount of knowledge about the Bible but it sounds like you don’t know much about it.

Storming off in a huff over a minor slight is unnecessary and I am not sure if you intend to stick to that, but since little progress has been made in this discussion and you’re complaining about almost all of the answers, I am closing this thread.
