When I was a kid, I read a book, or possibly a story within a book, about a group of kids who found some old telephones and batteries in a junkyard and set up a phone system between their two clubhouses. There was a fat kid named “Tubby”. It was written at about the 10-12 year old level.

If anyone can ID this book, I shall be duly impressed.

I typed “Tubby’s Clubhouse” into Google and got a bunch of his about a “Little Lulu” comic, plus some kid’s clubs or something like that.

Is that the right direction?
