Sorry, **Vorae** , but if you watch the movies closely, Wedge’s true greatness stands revealed - he’s not a Jedi, he doesn’t get the princess, he’s just a guy who does his job exceptionally well and always manages to come home, even when the Rebels take 98% casualties. And he saves the whiny farmboy a lot. And he’s the first to take out an Imperial Walker. And he survives both Death Star battles. I knew he was a badass when I was a little kid - my “Luke Skywalker, X-Wing Pilot” action figure was never Luke to me. He was Wedge. ---

Wedge is great and all, but whose side is he kicking? I never think of him as a sidekick because he’s got his own agenda going on – he doesn’t tag along after Luke or anyone else. Now Chewie, on the other hand, is an excellent sidekick. ---

The actor who played Wedge, Denis Lawson, is the uncle of Ewan McGregor, and it was his example that inspired young Ewan to become an actor. That said, Wedge was not a sidekick. He was barely more than an extra, frankly, and he deserves no place in this thread. I’ve just remembered another serious omission: **Jerome**! Morris Day’s sidekick in The Time. Of course he’s not fictional…unless he was also the sidekick of Morris Day’s character in _Purple Rain_ (I didn’t see it). ---

There`s still a dearth of female sidekicks in this thread. To redress the balance, I`m going to nominate Leela, the uber-assistant of the best Doctor Who, Tom Baker. Wild! Untamed! Savage! Scantily clad! {Her rawhide minidress did much to colour my adolescent fantasies for years to come} Out of all the Doctor`s legions of female assistants, she was the toughest and the least helpless: the alien threat didn`t exist that couldn`t be faced down with a stone knife or a poison dart. Admittedly she could never stay where she was told to, {“Stay here, Leela.” “Yes, Doctor.” Pauses, then wanders off in opposite direction. Is promptly captured.} but that was more a failing sui generis. ---

I’ve got to go with Beeblebrox here. Sancho Panza is one of the best sidekicks of all time. Patroclos is also a great sidekice. Both of these sidekicks are arguable better characters than their protagonists, Don Quixote and Achilles respectively.🙂 ---
