Right, which is another plus in her favor, since she probably wouldn’t be thrown out. Why I have such confidence in her ability to be a senator I couldn’t say, beyond knowing that she’s intelligent and thoughtful, and takes her family legacy very seriously, so I can’t imagine she would be a slouch. She would know that the pressure is on her because of her appointment, and would work twice as hard as anyone else to show people that she’s not just a vanity pick. That’s what I think, anyway.
I hear she’s heading to upstate New York very soon, to try and convince the people up there that she’ll work for them too, not just New York City.

Clinton chides supporters on Kennedy

Hillary Clinton has told her supporters not to involve her in their efforts to stop Caroline Kennedy’s path to the U.S. Senate, a person familiar with replacement discussions said.

The move clears a major obstacle between Kennedy and the seat.

Prominent Clinton supporters, including Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), union leader Stuart Applebaum and fundraiser Robert Zimmerman, recently expressed skepticism about the choice, suggesting that Clinton’s supporters would see naming Kennedy — a crucial Obama backer — as a slight.

All three “were told that their comments weren’t appreciated, and that if they have a candidate they prefer that is motivating their comments and actions, they need to make that crystal clear so that nobody thinks we’re behind it,” said a person close to the replacement talks.

Clinton is focused on her transition to the State Department, people close to her say, and being seen as meddling in the Senate choice would likely make her more enemies than friends.

“Sen. Clinton completely respects the privacy of his process so will not be commenting on it or any individual candidate, nor does any third party speak on her behalf,” said her spokesman, Philippe Reines.

If she’s seen as an ineffectual and nepotistic hire, I think people here won’t hesitate to throw her out on her ass. New Yorkers are probably not going to be feeling good about their government in 2010.

Frankly, I just wish he’d appoint the position already and end the speculation. If Caroline gets it, I think New Yorkers will be pleased by the job she does and she will easily win re-election. If they’re not, they can just throw her ass out in two years. That’s what would happen with anyone else he appoints. If she does a great job she could easily run for president in 8-12 years. Maybe that’s what the freepers are scared of. In intelligence, grace, knowledge and about a million other things, she sure shows up Palin.

Edit to add, it just came to me that maybe he can’t appoint the position until Hillary formally resigns. Anyone know if that’s true?

2nd edit to add, yep, her ability to raise money would be second to none. Another thing the freepers should be freaked out about.

Absolutely, which is why there’s no harm in giving her a chance. I believe that she’ll work harder to prove herself to the naysayers, beyond of course, just wanting to do a good job for the people of New York and to the seat’s legacy.

Obviously it makes no never mind to me, I’m not a New Yorker. We have our own seat here to fill, and what I wouldn’t give for Senator Caroline Kennedy (D-IL). Our seat is tainted before it’s even filled so we need someone who’s absolutely squeaky clean, like Caroline.

No no, I didn’t mean that. Lord knows I don’t think Dio’s a freeper. I just think that Democrats/Progressives who are grumbling would come to realize the worth of CKS, while freeper’s heads would explode. And that’s always fun to watch.
