# Who should be the next Fed.Res.Bd. Chairman?

The news says that the president will re-nominate Alan Greenspan to continue on as the chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Greenspan followed Paul Volker (sp?) in that post, and if I recall correctly Greenspan was the obvious heir apparent to Volker. Greenspan is no spring chicken. If he is unable to serve out his term, who should be appointed to this very important position? I ask my fellow Dopers because I haven’t the slightest clue about who the contenders should be.

**Robert Rubin**  
Former Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs, probably the most prestigious firm on Wall Street, accomplished lawyer, and former Treasury secretary. Equally respected by Dems and Republicans alike and a reputation for integrity beyond reproach. He’s internationally known and respected worldwide for his knowlege of the financuial markets.

I think there are very few people with his overall credentials.

I second Rubin. Summers can be Kerry’s Treasury Sec., and eventually succeed Rubin at the Fed.

Rubin would be a good choice. I hear him on NPR from time to time and he seems to have uncommonly good common sense.

[And currently a chairman at CitiGroup](http://www.citigroup.com/citigroup/corporate/businessheads/rubin.htm). And he was previously a member of the board of directors of the NYSE.

Hopefully, the Republicans will, for once, set aside their haterd of Clinton and not let Rubin’s service in that administration taint their opinion of him. But I ain’t holding my breath, politicians being what they are.
