I was thinking about the tribute specials some bands have gotten upon various milestones or entering a Hall of Fame. One staple of these programs is having other famed acts cover their songs on stage.

Then I thought of Weird Al Yankovic, and realized that, aside from the deserved respect he’d get from such a program, it would be AWESOME if some of the artists he’s parodied over the years would actually DO the songs that parodied theirs!

Who would you most want to be in such a special? Just from Al’s most recent album, I crack up at the thought of Usher doing “Confessions, Part 3,” and could even endure ten minutes of R. Kelly if he’d only do “Trapped in the Drive-Thru”! The mind boggles once you begin to consider the rest of his storied career.

What do y’all think?

Clearly the two who would be most awesome to see perform their parody songs would be Michael Jackson, (I’m Fat/Eat it) and Madonna (Like a surgeon)

Okay, there’s _another_ reason I wish Freddy Mercury were still around…

To be honest ANY band or performer who did their own parody song would inmediately be one of my favorites. I really wish we could have seen Kurt Cobain do “smells like nirvana”, but if i had to pick someone whos still alive i think Coolio should redeem himself by doing “Amish paradise”.

If it weren’t for the fact that Cobain is dead, this is the performance I would think most likely to happen. Nirvana really loved that they got a “Weird Al” treatment.

Chamillionaire was very impressed with “White and Nerdy”, even put it on his own MySpace page. I can’t see him performing it, though.

Don McClean might perform “The Saga Begins”.

I could see the Red Hot Chili Peppers doing “Bedrock Anthem”.

Green Day might do it.

Mark Knopfler only consented to parody treatment on the condition that he be allowed to play the guitar part. So, maybe he’d perform too.

O.K. those are the folks I think maybe would actually do it. Who would I _like_ to see do it?

I think it would be great to see Milli Vanilli _lipsync_ “The Plumbing Song”!

Billy Idol on “Alimony” would be cool.

Billy Ray Cyrus doing “Achy Breaky Song” would be awesome!

I’d pay to see Aerosmith do “Livin’ in the Fridge”

Probably not. Flea has been quoted as saying he wasn’t that impressed with it.

I doubt we’d see Coolio do “Amish Paradise.”

How about Devo doing “Dare to be Stupid”? Sure, it wasn’t a Devo song, but the style is straight Devo.

Michael Jackson would probably do Eat It.

Ahmed and Dweezil Zappa would probably do Genius in France.

This has a similar problem to Smells Like Nirvana on account of some of the people involved being dead. Of course, given the history of that particular side-show, you could just get performers that l_ooked like_ Milli-Vanilli and have the actors lipsync it.

Thanks to the magic of Youtube, we can already see Taylor Hicks performing “Do I Creep You Out”.

According to Wikipedia, McLean’s children have played the song so much that he sometimes accidentally sings Yankovic’s lyrics in concert.

the late Richard Harris HAS performed Jurassic Park in concert. I still find it amazing that this is the same guy who played the original Dumbledore.

Mark Mothersbaugh has said (jokingly) that he hates Weird Al for doing that song because it’s a better Devo song than he ever came up with.
