Watching bad movies can be fun but it’s only fun if the people making it were trying. I don’t like movies that know they are bad. They are mostly lazy and hacky. That’s not fun for me. ---

I must admit, I watch one of these silly flicks every once in a while. Most are pretty dumb, but vaguely entertaining in a “just-switch-your-mind-off-and-enjoy-it” kind of way. ---

I think a lot has to do with the drivel that’s on the other networks. I mean, if the choice is Real Housewives, Pawn Stars or Atomic Shark… there’s really no question in my mind that Atomic Shark wins. That puts enough eyes on the screen to sell advertising and that’s good enough for SyFy. And as much as I hate the cheesy movies, I’d rather have one of them on than any of the serious series SyFy has ever done. It’s not that the series are bad, but you know that they’ll follow the Lost formula: unnecessary drama, one mystery leads to two others, strung out for so long that there’s never any resolution or answer, just an end. ---

However slight, there is something slightly more appealing, or at least less unappealing about new crap as compared to the same old style crap, or different crap, or crap you have already seen. ---

Why is it always sharks? What do they have against land critters? I think a Cougar-Water Buffalo hybrid would be pretty cool. With a scorpion tail. ---

There’s a fixation on sharks that doesn’t carry to any other species. Discovery has had SharkWeek for decades. I promise you that no one will ever have Water Buffalo Week, and if there is ever a Cougar Week, it will be on a porn channel. 🙂 Beyond the public interest in sharks, there is nothing cheaper to animate. A couffalo would be visible any time it was on screen and would need legs and fur. For sharks, a grey matte fin is enough to tell us there’s a shark there. (Unless it’s an Atomic Shark, which is red.) You don’t even need to CGI the water swirling around the fin, apparently. ---

That’s all true, but now, along with the bad-acting, bad- effects and bad-scripts, they are using drones to get those great shots we never had before. This is going to be one hell of a week, but I’m going to try to watch them all, well, I’m going to DVR them and see how much I can take. This will be a new high in lows. ---

Made-For-SyFy movies are cheesy, ridiculous fun. I’m not SyFy fan by any means, but I’ll watch one if there’s nothing else on which interests me. My husband, OTOH, is a huge SyFy fan, especially for _12 Monkeys_ and _Killjoys_. ---

My husband was clicking in and out of the three-headed shark thing last night - OMG!!! I can see movies like that being a hoot if you have a big big TV and a bunch of like-minded friends watching it together, with appropriate beverages. 😃 It sure cracked us up! ---
