When my parents were on their first date, they left a dance and went out to the car. Dad couldn’t get the car to go forward, but it would go in reverse. He ended up leaving my mom waiting at the dance while he ran home and borrowed his brother’s car. The verdict? The parking brake was engaged.

And she married him!

Oh, and I use it every time I park my car (manual).

And whoever it was who mentioned the light not going out, that light may also be a signal of brake failure, not just the parking brake being engaged. Check thy brake fluid!
