Hmmm, Euty, does this question mean my assumption is wrong? (The assumption being: GUYS is used colloquially in a unisex context, and you can refer to women as guys too - in a casual manner…) So who owes the 200$? I don’t generally whine over flirt threads. I once brought up what I _thought_ was a reasonable protest to a thread which invited all to come to a consensus on who was the sexiest doper. To me, that’s different from flirting–but given the hostile reaction I got, it wasn’t a distinction shared by some others, and I think I’ve been branded an Anti-Flirting Hag. Nothing could be further from the truth. For one thing, I’d be delighted with more flirting threads where I got mentioned. Heh. But speaking generally, do I want them to proliferate? Truthfully, no. I know they’re harmless fun, and there’s nothing wrong with the boosts they give people (and hey, maybe they’ll spark more real-life romances between dopers). But I don’t necessarily want _more_ of them. Why not? Well, despite how much this makes me seem like a goddamn feel-good pollyanna (or an embittered old bitch) I’ll confess that I believe that for some dopers, they make the board seem cliquish and they emphasize how much on the fringes some posters are and perhaps always will be. Yes, yes, I know what a wet blanket I sound like. Someone’s got to say it. So I think the occasional ones we have are enough. As for the second question, what I’d like to see in more flirt threads are posts which have something to offer anyone who’s reading. That means wit, interesting content, insights, etc. Not just lists of names, and not just personalized one-on-one chat-like exchanges. I mean, of course people will name names (that’s the point!) but you can make it interesting reading nonetheless. I don’t this as a criticism of anyone in particular, I’m just thinking about what makes threads enjoyable (to me).
