# Who was more charismatic, McQueen or Mitchum?

Well, shoot… I was going to ask if Mitchum ever had a college named after him, and provide a link to the website for “Steve McQueen State University”, but whoever used to have that site must have taken it down, I can’t find it anymore. ☹
Even so, I’ll have to go with McQueen. (We Steves have to stick together!)

I give McQueen credit for managing to look cool in his [mug shot](http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/mcqueenmug1.html).
But overall, I have to go with Mitchum. McQueen was cool but he wanted to be cool. Mitchum was so cool he didn’t care whether or not he was cool.

And Mitchem WAS Phillip Marlowe. I still can’t read a Raymond Chandler novel without picturing Mitchem laconically being Marlowe.
Add to that his sexy voice and heavy lidded eyes. He could almost, but not quite make me quit getting the vapors of my dream man…Oliver Reed. :::swoon::

mitchum, baby, all the way.
even when he was bad, he was \*so \* good! for a look at the man doing sheer crazy evil better than anybody else, run do not walk to the nearest copy of _night of the hunter_ you can get your hands on.
not only is his performance worth the price of admission, the whole \*film \* is an all time classic and a must have for any film buff.

At the age of 50 he was informed by his US doctors that he had incurable cancer and that there was nothing they could do to prolong his life. He went to Mexico to undergo unconventional treatment for his incurable cancer, and died of a heart attack following surgery.

I don’t consider this going “…all over the world like a crybaby trying too desperately to get his cancer cured.” Being given a death sentence can make even the strongest seek alternative treatment.
You might find this hard to believe, but there are some of us who find fifty relatively young. Someday you’ll get there - let us know what you think then.
