Hello! I have a question for all people, but mainly Houston Dopers. I’ve watched an episode of Conan O’ Brien and he kept clowning on Houston, because Houston was the only area that airs his show after midnight. Does anyone in Houston watch Conan O’ Brien? I think he’s a bit corny, but that makes it fun to watch. Hehe. Any other thoughts? ---

I used to watch religously, but not so much recently. I liked his deprecating sense of humor and absurdity. [The Onion’s](http://www.theonion.com) AV club has an interview with O’Brian, and last week had one with his former side-kick, Andy Richter. ---

Oh, I watch Conan all night. I love him. He’s my favorite Late-Night talk show host (better’n Leno, better’n Letterman, WAY better’n that hack Kilborne). I think what I like about Conan is that he’s a writer more than a talk show host… ---

I watched OBrien precisely once, during the opening week. He did some lame satire of an animal trainer guest with a horribly incontent monkey. I pretty much got the whole premise of the show and I will never EVER watch it again. ---

I don’t have a chance to watch too much late night tv anymore, but I Conan O’Brian has always been a favorite of mine. He’s clever. He is very good with his guests; humorous, and whether he is actually interested in them or not, it definetly seems as though he cares about what they have to say (unlike Jay Leno who often, with his mouse laugh, is strained and tries too hard to seem like he cares). ---

Conan has certainly got a lot better than the first couple years. Some of his bits, especially Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog, are absolutely hilarious. Yeah, “… for me to poop on!” isn’t exactly highbrow, but it makes me laugh. And it was great watching him get Martha Stewart to eat Taco Bell food and drink Olde English 800 (malt liquor). ---

I’ve caught bits of the show 3 or 4 times just in the past few weeks as I flip through the channels. So far, every single time I’ve caught a few seconds of the show, the exact same video was showing, of a dog humping an inflatable animal. Yep, the same infantile crap, except even worse. And hecubus, I started reading this thread because I am honestly curious about what people could possibly find funny in this sort of juvenile antics. Pee jokes and animals humping. I love Conan O’Brien. When They Mated… is a great skit, and so is triumph. And yes, he is more of a writer than a talk-show host, which makes him so much better. All time favorite though, is when he’s flipping through the channels that he gets on NBCs sattelite and finds the ‘Potato Judge’ channel. If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about. LOL! ---

I watch Conan, but only because it’s the only show that’s watchable at 12:30am while I’m awake from insomnia. I’d rather listen to poo-poo jokes than the other shit that’s on. Then again, I’d rather be sleeping at that time too. ---

heehee, I think 4 posts is how much SPOOFE likes that show. He may make it 5. I also enjoy him. I miss the “In the year 2000” ‘In the year 2000 men will stop worrying about the size of their penises and whether or not they have hair on their head. Instead they will worry about hair on their penises.’ csg Although he can latch onto an idea and beat it to death just like Letterman does. But he does have some of the wackiest ideas. Like his staring contests … which I always thought meant that you couldn’t blink. He’s never even mentioned where I live that I can recall … Which is a shame, I’d like to have this place made fun of, but I guess we’re too bland. ---

I wouldn’t necessarily call Late Night childish or even lowbrow, but rather _absurd_. I used to be a big fan of the show, and I still kind of am, yet I still don’t enjoy most of his bits, but some of them kill me. Luckily, I can get my fix of my favorite bit from the Late Night website. My favorite bit is “Actual Items,” a take-off of Jay Leno’s “Headlines”. I would suggest everyone drop by [http://www.nbc.com/conan](http://www.nbc.com/conan) and read the Actual Items. Bloody hilarious. And hey, Conan used to write for Simpsons, one of the sharpest witted TV-shows of its time. His bits shouldn’t be taken at face value. Most of them are self-parody, which is why I don’t really dig the show too much anymore. How many times can you do bits that are stupid just in an attempt to be funny by being so stupid? ---

Conan O’Brien has been my favorite talk-show host for a long time, but I have to agree with **Chas.E** , if only a little bit. Conan, from what I can discern, could easily be the most intelligent, cleverest person on late night, and I think most of his writers probably are similar, because there is some excellent humor. Actual Items and In the Year 2000 is a great example. But then, there’s all this extremely juvenile stuff thrown in. I’m not saying that anyone who likes it has bad taste, but I could get that from Letterman, if I wanted it, which I don’t.
