Cruz has a 47%-40% favorable/unfavorable rating in Texas. Meanwhile, his general election opponent – Rep. Colin Allred – has a favorability rating of “who?” As for Texas “bluing,” Trump carried Texas by about five and a half percent in 2020. I expect he’ll do about the same this time. It’s safe to say we’re past the days of Republicans routinely carrying statewide elections in Texas by double digits. Now we’re likely into a long stretch of Republicans routinely carrying statewide elections in Texas by single digits. It’s going to be a while before Texas is competitive enough that putting a Texan on the ticket is seen as smart move. ---
