I can’t imagine Trump wanting to run with DeSantis, but if he did he could just pull a Cheney and move his ‘residence’ to NY or NJ. ---

People bring up the “can’t be from the same state” bit every time we talk about running mates. It’s easily disposed of by one or the other changing his/her state of residence. A minor technicality that would not impact the selection process. ---

It’s just former common sense that the candidate has his own state sown up and might need help in another region. That like many other things doesn’t apply to Trump. Regardless of where he hangs his comb over he’s still a New Yorker who will lose New York. Picking someone from Florida doesn’t make a difference. Most likely it will be someone he likes and feels is loyal regardless of where they are from. Maybe his advisors can gently guide him to pick someone perceived to help get him elected like someone from a swing state or a woman. ---

So, in the case of a Trump/DeSantis ticket, Florida would have to cast its Vice-Presidential votes for someone else. That could easily throw the Vice-Presidential election to a contingency election in the Senate.
