We can’t bash the guy for being opposed to interracial marriage when he’s IN an interracial marriage. You have to be trying really hard to be offended if you consider that phrase equivalent to referring to a Black person as “colored”. There’s so many real reasons to dislike the guy, no need to make up new ones. ---

We can bash him for being a hypocrite however: being in an interracial marriage while not pushing back on racist attacks against Harris. Btw, the whole concept of race is stupid, but aren’t (weren’t?) Indians considered to be Caucasian? That’s where the Aryan race was supposed to come from, no? Bhagat Singh Thind](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Bhagat_Singh_Thind)_ that while Indians were classified as [Caucasians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_race) by anthropologists, people of Indian descent were not white by common American definition, and thus not eligible to citizenship.** In any case, Usha is not going to be considered white enough by Vance’s nazi buddies. ---

Depends on which racist mythology you subscribe to. Some of the pseudoscientists who influenced Hitler’s ideology did point to India as the original home of the “Aryan” race. Wait, this is a hijack, isn’t it? We should stop. ---

Subtexts aside, though, the substance of Trump’s attack isn’t that mixed-race relationships or people are intrinsically bad, he’s saying (falsely, of course) that Harris has suddenly changed her racial self-identification in the recent past for opportunistic reasons. ---

I was so focused on the horrible things Vance was saying that I think I missed the big picture. The only elected office Vance has ever held is a Senate seat he has been in for less than two years and that was essentially bought for him. People are debating whether Pete Buttigieg has enough experience to be VP while meanwhile Vance has NO experience governing. There is a real chance if Trump is elected as the oldest president ever that we could end up with this totally inexperienced person as president. Just another reason to be terrified. ---
