Getting back to JD and his Swiftboating of Walz, I came across this on Xitter when pursuing the “Trump is done” hashmark. It’s likely fake, since I didn’t find it on the US Marine Corps’ official website, but if it makes a dent in the phony “stolen valor” crap, even a little, that’s fine by me. > ---

I don’t think that whoever created it necessarily set out to make it look like it was an official statement from the USMC. ---

The logo and the first paragraph probably are from the USMC site. It’s just boilerplate. The second paragraph is commentary from the author. There is no way a branch of the military would get involved like that. ---

On the lighter side, Vance has quit Magic:The Gathering (a card game). Is there a chance trump chose him to try to make himself look good in comparison? A lot could be made of the fact that trump’s inner circle was a notorious pack of unrepentant criminals. He pardoned assholes whose convictions were the opposite of a miscarriage of justice. ---

But if Trump had truly wanted someone who would be so loathed and despised that he, Trump, would look good by comparison—well, he did a fairly decent job of that with the Vance pick. But there were other options even more loathed and despised than Vance: the Pharma Bro, the cop convicted of murdering George Floyd, Armie Hammer…the list goes on. So it’s likely that Trump thought Vance would be a deferential little mini-me for him—not the headline maker that he turned out to be. ---
