Alan Rickman could do Vetinari, but my personal vote goes for David Warner. Vimes should be played by Clint Eastwood in his ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ days. Brendan ‘Dudley Do-Right’ Frasier would make a great Capt Carrot. Eric Idle could play Rincewind and John Cleese could play Ridcully. DEATH MUST BE VOICED BY JAMES EARL JONES. ---

I always pictured [Chazz Palminteri](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001590/) as Vetinari. And Ian Holm’s portrayal of the semi-bumbling priest in _5th Element_ always made me think of Rincewind. ---

I picture Carrot as Nicholas Lyndhurst, but he might be a bit too weedy. Maybe someone like Casper Van Dien. Colon would be played by Mel Smith, of course. Nobby could be Tony Robinson. Jim Broadbent might make a good Ridcully, or perhaps one of the other Wizards. As would Geoffrey Rush, or Jonathan Pryce. Hmmm… ---

So many choices… Gotta second Rhys Ifans as Rincewind, David Warner as Vetinari, and Pete Postlethwaite as Vimes (I didn’t know TP favored him as well. I had him pegged as Vimes after seeing “The Sins” a few years ago). I love the idea of Simon Pegg as Rincewind! I always pictured Vimes as John Thaw, in his younger days (think _The Sweeney_ - too bad he’s dead. Quite fancy his missus, Sheila Hancock, as Granny Weatherwax. Or Penelope Keith. Robbie Coultrane would be great as Ridcully. And I’d love to get Bill Bailey in there somewhere, as _someone_…still working on who… ---

Can’t I just play myself? Anyway, Angua’s blonde _and_ busty – Keira Knightly about as busty as an ironing board with two peas on it. I reckon Eddie Izzard should have a role in there somewhere, but again, I’m not sure where. ---

Thanks to artist Paul Kidby, who collaborated with Pterry on the new coffee-table book _The Art of Discworld_ (HarperCollins 2005) ([http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060758279/ref=pd\_sim\_b\_5/103-1562887-4572653?\_encoding=UTF8&v=glance](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060758279/ref=pd_sim_b_5/103-1562887-4572653?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance)), we now have a canonical picture of how each Discworld character is supposed to look; so we can use that as a starting point in making casting choices.
