What items do you have a whole lot of around the house? In an attempt to find something for lunch, I found stockpiles of several different foodstuffs, including 20 boxes of corn muffin mix, 4 bottles of ketchup in the cabinet, and canned goods that haven’t, and probably won’t see the light of day in years. What kinds of things do you have lying around the house in ungodly quantities? ---

Absolutely nothing. Only the essentials survive at my house. I’m a bit of a minimalist, I’m afraid. ---

Packets of taco sauce. And packets of Onion Ring Dipping Sauce from Burger King. And Arby’s Sauce, and mayo packets, and ketchup packets, and mustard packets, and it goes on and on and on. Mr2U is a condiment freak. I think he worries that should the end times come, he’ll be out of Horsey Sauce for his apocolyptic last roast beef sandwich. :rolleyes: I wonder at times if this is grounds for divorce. ---

Empty glass jars. I’m really not sure why I need ten of them – you’d think one or two would take care of any glass jar needs that might arise – esp. since I can’t remember the last time I actually experienced a glass jar need. ---

Paper towels TP cat food hot sauce (really a collection, but it counts as a stockpile) toiletries (shaving gel, blades, Right Guard, tampons, etc.) All are bought in bulk, so we always have quite a stash around at any given time. Oh, and whiskey. We must have 20+ bottles of single-malt Scotch and various bourbons in the liquor cabinet. 😃 ---

We don’t have too many of anything, really. We buy some things in bulk from Sam’s Club, like paper towels and TP and butter in packages of 5 1-lb. blocks. We’ve been using green garbage bags from the same box for almost two years! The only items of which we have a superabundance are records, CDs and books. ---

Am I the only one who saves the empty quart containers of plain yogurt and then nests them to build a stack several feet high? My excuse is that you can always use the containers, but also I can place the stack on the counter to hold up the ceiling to prevent it from collapsing. ---

Shotgun shells. I went on a game farm pheasant shoot this weekend and while getting my things together I was amazed at the number and variety of shotgun shells I own, many of which I’m sure I’ll never shoot. ---

You, too? The last time I organized everything for a shooting trip, I started to count the amount of ammo around this place. Too many different calibers, and plenty of rounds for each. I always laugh at the news reports of someone getting busted and reporters trolling for ratings talking about the “thousands of rounds of ammunition in the house.” Pah. A thousand rounds just means there was a sale at Big 5. 😃 ---

Crap. we have lots of crap. Go down in the basement and think “I gotta throw some of this S\*it OUT!” Start at true North and point at the first thing: Nope, that was a wedding gift. Next thing to the left? That’s a heirloom. Next: We might need that. next. Oh, I _got rid_ of one of those before, I had to buy _that_ as a replacement. Can’t get rid of that, wife’d kill me. You kiddin me? That’s PRICELESS! Next thing you know, you’ve gone 360 degrees. Dejectedly, you walk back upstairs. We cleaned out the Fridge before the last move (six years ago) We had _seven_ kinds of mustard. Condiments Anonymous. ---

Mexican stewed tomatoes and 100 watt light bulbs. I have only one recipe that calls for Mexican stewed tomatoes, and since it requires onion (which I rarely have), I don’t make it often. I have only one light that uses 100 watt bulbs. You’d think I’d stock up on some of the more useful wattages. ---

My collections: – Lightbulbs. Every time hubby goes to the store, he buys a couple of packs of high-efficiency bulbs. Considering they’re supposed to last five years, I can rest safe in the knowledge I have a lifetime supply at hand. – Old toys, kept for vaguely sentimental reasons. Both sets of parents cleaned out the proverbial attics and sent boxes of them to Hubby and I when we bought our house. A few of them I donated to the museum in which I work, but the rest sit down there, stuffed indifferently into boxes, but never surrendered. – Books . . . thousands of them. They fill an entire room, bookshelves placed back to back, the tomes themselves stacked two-deep on the shelves. I’m a re-reader, and the bastards at the library always nag me to return books, so [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) is probably going to name their next distribution center after me. Even the ones I disliked are never cast out, for one day I may re-read them and find that I like the book after all. It’s happened before. (Now, I shall answer the questions I always get: Yes, I’ve read them all, and yes, I know where everything is.) – ---

Earplugs. I have a box of 200 pair of earplugs. In all sorts of funky colors, no less. The lead guitarist for The Highwayman’s old band brought them a few years ago. AFAIK, he only used maybe a dozen of them, and left the box after the boys all went their separate ways. Once in a while one of the cats figures out how to open the cabinet and I spend a day scooping day-glo ear plug poop out of the box.
