Whom would you sue? (Las Vegas shooting victims)

Do hotels in Las Vegas have a “no firearm” policy?

ISIS has been using drones to drop grenades rigged as bombs for a while now. They film the results. I’m sure you can google the videos out of Syria.

Nevada is an open carry state. It’s legal to carry a firearm anywhere. It’s up to the individual casino to have a no gun policy but it doesn’t have the weight of law.

Well, they didn’t die of natural causes. Someone deliberately murdered them, causing their death and your consequent pain and suffering, among many other horrific damages.

I don’t blame the victims one bit for suing anyone they can think of. They deserve as much money as they can get.

That said, as far as I can tell, this is one of those “too fucking bad” situations where there really is no one else at fault besides the murderer, who is now dead. And while somewhat wealthy, his estate won’t begin to cover the damage he caused.

Of course, if the concert organizer or hotel were in any way negligent or at fault, they should pay. But I just don’t see how they are, or what they reasonably could have done differently. And of course suing the weapons manufacturers is silly.

I think there should at least be a common fund we can all contribute to that will pay out in these situations, similar to natural disaster relief.

I have to tell potential clients all the time that there is no one to sue for the misfortune that came their way. In many cases, it is important to do a little investigation into the law and facts before we give that advice. I don’t know what these lawyers in the Vegas lawsuit did or didn’t do before deciding on these defendants, but I expect they have a good faith basis to allege negligence. Civil Rule 11 requires that:

Present-day conservatives? If your stock picking is so bad that you don’t have millions squirreled away to cover a medical emergency, you deserve what you get.

Index funds like VAGIX are one answer. Even very simple investing would have turned the $1,000,000 Daddy gave you into several million by today.

I don’t think there is anyone to sue, unless you want to live in a police state where you are constantly going through checkpoints and under surveillance, and even then someone could find a way.

Yes. And it was such a stupid idea that the theatre was awarded nearly $700,000 in legal fees (I believe that the theatre eventually decided not to pursue collection).

Suing is not a good idea just because somebody tangentially associated with the case may have money.

As for the Vegas case, I’d sue the shooter. He’s dead, of course, but I would seek a portion of his estate to pay my medical bills were I a victim. I may never collect, but at least I’d obtain some measure of retribution against the killer.

I agree. The one responsible is dead and there is only so much that we can reasonably prepare for.

Hell, sue the NRA for enabling this short of shit.

Or—since I doubt that any lawsuits are going to get far, really—try learning to manage your grief more appropriately.

Double post…sorry.

I’d love to sue the NRA.

It is their powerful and greedy and thoughtless lobbying over the past three decades or so that has continually enabled citizens to purchase assault rifles; a weapon they have absolutely NO use or need for. Well, unless they want to carry-out a mass shooting, that is.

And we’re off to the races!

You’ll pardon me if I, a free citizen of voting age, have scant regard for your opinion of my needs, or the lawful uses to which I purpose my own personal property, or the liberties I choose to exercise under the Constitution of the United States, and its Amendments.

The level of sheer, unadulterated ignorance you display with regards to firearms should, in-and-of-itself, get you booted for being an “idiot ass clown” from a message board dedicated to fighting ignorance.

You know you need to take it to the Pit if you’ve got a problem with a poster. Don’t dish personal insults in this forum.

Who’s the ass?

I was asked whom I would sue. I answered. So…the fact that you disagree with my opinion is a big, fat “YP” and not an “MP.”

Your problem, genius.

And…no–thankfully, I don’t know you. But I DO know you don’t need an assault rifle. You may feel you do, as compensation for your dire lacking down below, but again…that’s a YP.

LOL

Thanks for sharing.

And that will earn you a warning, as well. Take it to the Pit.
