If there’s one universal truth, no matter how cool and edgy you think your music is when you are a kid, eventually it becomes the soundtrack for car and snack commercials.
According to the video I linked, it was just a really common phrase at the time. Neither group believed the other stole it from them, and they would even do “battle of the bands” type stuff for charity together.
