Howdy folks! Quick question I’ve been pondering but can’t seem to find an answer to go with it. You know the classic ‘parrot/talking bird’ phrases we have in English? Who’s a pretty boy, then? Polly want a cracker? Pieces of eight! Does anyone know what the Spanish equivalent for these would be? And I’m guessing Polly wouldn’t be a typical Spanish bird name either. Any ideas? Thanks! (apologies if this has already been asked, but my search keeps crashing the browser!) ---

I’m not sure if you’re trying to find the Spanish equivalents because you think parrots were originally Spanish or not. In any event, we did the origins of “Polly want a cracker” just a few months ago and found it only from 1849 (in English). I’ve heard "Roberto quiere cacao?’ quite often, whith Roberto being the bird’s name.
