Yeah, I was thinking about this. Why would the dingbat assume some random politician is going to be carrying around Obama’s actual birth certificate? The cheers were the worst part of that clip, though.

And of course the GOP politicians don’t dare correct the dingbats, because they’re their base.

Actually, the GOP politician in question, Delaware’s Representative to the House, did correct the dingbat, IIRC. He said that President Obama was an American citizen, and moved on to other stuff.

Is there ANY truth to this, or is this just something someone made up that got spread around?

ETA: The reaction seems much the same as when other prominent conservative commentators (of which there are many) criticize the Kenya theory: disappointment in the messenger and persistence in their belief.

How an unwed mother, nine months pregnant, managed to afford a trip from Hawaii to Kenya in 1961 (which I’m sure any responsible grandparent would never pay for) is beyond me.

I see conflicting things about the material existence of a long birth certificate. I also see some birthers claiming their cousin is drinking buddies with a guy on the FBI who says they’re forging a long form right now, so if/when they ever see it, they’ll just say “I want to see the real one. That’s a forgery.”

I wish the whole lot of them would move to Texas and secede from the Union.

Two nitpicks:

(1) It’s Obama’s step-grandmother who’s supposed to have “confirmed” the Kenyan birth, although, as you rightly point out, once the translator got her to understand what was being asked she emphatically denied the whole Kenyan birth thing.

(2) Stanley Ann Dunham was married to Barack Hussein Obama Sr. when little Junior was born.

There she met Barack Obama, Sr., a student from Nyang’oma Kogelo in Kenya and the school’s first African student, during a Russian language class.[13] She married him on February 2, 1961 in Maui, Hawaii despite some parental opposition to the marriage from both sides.[3][14] In November 2008, Obama Sr.'s first wife, Kezia, said she had granted her consent for him to marry a second wife, in keeping with Luo customs.[15] Obama Sr. eventually told Ann about his first marriage in Kenya, but said he was divorced, which she would find out years later was not true.[16] Dunham was three months pregnant at the time of her marriage.[1][3]

On August 4, 1961, at age 18, she gave birth to her first child, Barack Obama II.

Obviously, no amount of evidence will ever convince you people. Hawaii has, in fact, released photographs of the original, “long form” birth certificate. If you’re going to just claim that it’s fake without a shred of evidence, then why ask to see it in the first place?

I think Obama was born in Hawaii (as already mentioned earlier), so please don’t lump me in with those people.

Even if Obama’s long-form, original birth certificate were to be made public, though, the questions from Taitz and others wouldn’t stop. Because there’s a second argument: that there’s no way that Obama could fit the definition of a “natural-born citizen.” By turning to Swiss philosophy texts read by the Founding Fathers, citing the infamous Scott v. Sanford Supreme Court decision as precedent (which denied citizenship to former slave Dred Scott and was later overturned) and disqualifying the presidency of Chester A. Arthur, Taitz is able to claim that a baby can only be a natural-born citizen if both parents were American citizens at the time of the baby’s birth. Obama’s Kenyan father was a British subject.

Wha? Since when? It reminds me of the time Cecil addressed those tax-protestor arguments that said that the 16th Amendment was invalid, because apparently, Ohio wasn’t a state when Taft was born, thus Taft wasn’t a natural born citizen, and was eligible to be president.

So would that mean anyone with a forebearer who came to the U.S. after the American Revolution would not be considered a citizen?
