The best part for me is that he got caught smoking crack during a sting, then was re-elected. According to nebulous city officials, “the law allows Barry to keep his council seat unless he gets felony prison time.” Since this is only a misdemeanor (with a year and a half prison sentence, but whatever), does this mean that Barry could do his council business from jail?

I think Marion Barry (formerly “Mayor-For-Life Barry” per the D.C. _Citypaper_) is a genuine scumbag. But if pols like our actual mayor would stop committing D.C. to doing things like spend $600M on a baseball stadium for a sport that needs D.C. far more than D.C. needs it, even as they’re closing down hospitals that serve the poorer end of town, then it might make it a bit more of a challenge for demagogues like Barry to get elected.

Great point, **Taran**. Remember when everyone’s favorite James Trafficant insisted on running for reelection from prison? God, I miss that guy.
