Those few percent were stupid voters. Stupid, in that case, for not showing up.

I don’t accept that this is true, or at the very least I see this as, at best, a wild guess. Trump motivated millions of previously non-voters to come out and vote. And millions more for his re-election. Biden got the most votes anyone ever has.

Obama was an anomaly – a once in a lifetime candidate. Maybe once in a century. He ran of the best campaigns ever (maybe two of them!). Being old doesn’t make Biden a weak candidate, and being nuts and terrible doesn’t make Trump a weak candidate. At least not necessarily.

America.

If America looks at the Biden Administration and wants to go back to lunatic Trump, we deserve whatever we get. We’re morons and shouldn’t be left in charge of a serious country, and with Trump we might eventually not have a serious country anymore.

We have a guy doing the job as President. We came out of the weirdest 2 years of our nation’s history, got socked with a slug of inflation, and now have an economy that has under 4% unemployment, has added to the workforce every month for the last 2 years. Voters want to re-hire the guy who couldn’t work with the people in his own Administration? Who couldn’t provide a consistent message during a pandemic? Who was found liable for committing sexual assault? Whose business committed fraud? Who is on trial for a felony related to paying off a porn star he cheated on his wife with?

Voters want him instead? We deserve to have this whole country fall apart around us.

If the election is held fairly, I 100% agree.

But if Biden loses because a few states go to extraordinary lengths to prevent certain voters from voting, or they disregard the vote altogether and simply submit their electors for Trump, then I don’t think we can blame the whole country. We can, however, start preparing for a constitutional crisis and/or civil war.

I would blame SCOTUS for having violated their [oath](https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/oath/oathsofoffice.aspx#:~:text=“I%2C%20 _________ %2C%20do%20solemnly,evasion%3B%20and%20that%20I%20will) to support and defend the Constitution against a [domestic enemy](https://wapo.st/44xFT24). It was their duty to uphold Fourteenth Amendment Section 3 without fear or favor, and they failed.

However, if they quickly block Trump’s promised day one dictatorial actions, they might redeem themselves.

More broadly, the people to blame will be those who facilitate Trump’s illiberal second term actions.

I’ll place the blame on the American people if Trump wins. Enough Americans looked at Donald Trump and thought, “Yeah, this is the man I want running the country.”

Absolutely this. There are simply too many stupid, ignorant, shallow, dishonest people who are incapable of critical thinking. Many or most of these people are also selfish and narrow minded people incapable of considering the impacts of their decisions on the wider world and/or into the future.

Many of them probably have no clue as to what NATO is, what Ukraine is, or any understanding of what the USSR was and what Russia and Putin are, except what they’ve heard from their own narrow minded, ignorant social circle.

There is nobody else to blame as, to any normal person, Trump’s toxicity and evil are as obvious and blatant as seeing a pile of shit and vomit on a dinner plate. Yet these people chose Trump over Hillary even though she may have been the bland hot dogs vs the pile of shit and vomit.

I mean, I understand where you’re coming from, but don’t you think the media and administration bare some responsibility? Right now, people who simply don’t want innocent women and children in Palestine to die, and are (mostly) peacefully protesting, are basically being called antisemites.

It seems to me that all the gaslighting and half-measures might have sour people to Biden and the DNC. Is it selfish and destructive to not vote for him this coming election? Yeah, probably. Doesn’t mean Biden and the DNC can’t be selfish and destructive too, right?

All I am about to say is strongly IMHO, however, I would fully agree with you regarding any other North American election. But I just can’t with this situation. IMHO, if it seems that the liberal media is biased against Trump, well, how can they seem otherwise without lying?

If Trump’s actions are accurately reported, they will seem utterly absurd and unbelievable.

I think it’s possible to report things in a way that is **truthful** , but it’s never possible to report things in a way that comes across as **unbiased**. Because if one side is being bad, and you truthfully report that they’re bad, then it will look like your motive is anti-them.

Is it possible that you and Joe Biden have an honest difference of opinion on the Gaza war and Zionism?

I have a difference of opinion with Biden on the Supreme Court affirmative action decision, and my opinion (in favor of the decision) polls better than Biden’s opinion. But I wouldn’t blame Joe for that, because he should be saying what he actually thinks rather than pandering to a possibly temporary majority.

I personally disagree with Biden on a lot of things. What Israel is doing, on it’s face, seems absolutely insane. It’s not just any disagreement. BTW, I’m voting for him.

I don’t think demonizing people who actually have the balls and ovaries to actually put their livelihood’s on the line to call it out, is a great strategy though. All he seems to care about is calling out the protesters.

If it would hurt his chances in the next election, I honestly don’t know.

Yeah, I never heard them specifically say that, no. I didn’t meant to imply that, but I understand the confusion. Biden IS talking about antisemitism on campus so much, you’d think Jewish people are being harassed and discriminated against by a majority of the protesters, though.

I pretty strongly object to the idea that anyone would be to blame other than the voters - those who vote for Trump, and anyone who stays home and doesn’t vote or votes for a 3d party candidate. No reason to make it any more complicated than that. It is not exactly rocket science to figure out what sort of person Trump is and what sort of president he was.

And I reject the idea that Biden is not a qualified candidate and a good president. My only objection is that he’s too old and shoulda been a 1-termer, setting up his VP for this election, but that ship has sailed.

Why look for someone to “blame” other than the folk who cast the votes? We’ll see if voter suppression eforts have a significant effect in swing states, but the Dems certainly have had the opportunity to try to counteract those efforts.

What a fucked up situation, that it is going to come down to a few thousand voters in 5-6 states!

The job of a sports team is to make sure all the other teams in their league don’t win.

The job of a politician is to do his best to make the country stronger and more prosperous for everyone who lives there.

Trump is a failure at doing the job of a politician. He makes the country weaker and poorer, except for a select group of his friends and cronies. Trump supporters aren’t to blame for making “our side” lose, they’re to blame for thinking that Donald Trump is good at the job of being a politician.

I was reading your post, building up to a ever-so-polite and friendly scolding about political reality but you beat me to it 😀. However I will use your comment to jump off to here:

> [@Velocity](#):
>
> Both parties have put forth extraordinarily weak candidates.
>
> If either party were to put forth a decent-good candidate, they’d easily obliterate the other in a landslide.

I see this sort of comment a lot, kinda assuming political parties have a lot of agency in this situation. But it really isn’t how it works. By and large (there are always exceptions on the edges) it is the leading presidential candidates that control the parties, not the other way around. The DNC cannot and could not put forward someone other than Biden, because Biden would not allow them to. Ditto for Trump and the Republicans - in these modern days where the smokey political backroom has lost most of its mojo, the tail ALMOST ALWAYS wags the dog.

Biden has basically said if it wasn’t Trump running, he would have retired. Which I tends to believe. So apparently Biden himself thinks he has a better chance than Pete Buttgeig, Tammy Duckworth, Gavin Newsom or Kamala Harris. Now he may well be wrong, but if he believes it the DNC can do exactly nothing about that. The party chair could have politely asked Biden to please step aside. The conversation likely would have been something like this:

PC: “We think we need younger blood. Could you please step aside for the good of the country?”
Biden: “Fuck you. No. Now hop like a frog.”
PC: “Okay. Yes sir.” (makes a little hop)

At the national level parties might help groom candidates and they certainly function to support candidates. But candidates choose themselves and it is entirely a mass popularity contest. There is little or nothing a party can do to stop a front-runner from running.
