On thing that puzzles me is that I seldom see a knock-down, drag-out debate between equally hard-core members of different denominations. Instead, they talk past each other and target their rhetoric at the fence-sitters etc. out there in media-land. ---

But there’s still times that I’m amazed I developed any critical thinking skills at all. For in our household (long before the conversion even), doing anything but blithely following along was ripe for severe whoop-ass punishment. I’m surprised that I didn’t think the Easter Bunny was real 'cause my mother felt I should retain the “innocence of childhood” as long as possible. :rolleyes: ---

I don’t know. I was reading along, kind of enjoying this one as a good, second-tier Chick-ism - stupid without being dull, bigoted without being _too_ hateful, and with the occasional outright whopper to keep us all on our toes - And got all the way to the end. I remember back when Muslims were going apeshit over _The Satanic Verses_, which was shortly after Christians went monkeypoop over _The Last Temptation of Christ_, I said, “Can’t we get 2 groups of angry Christians and Muslims together in an arena somewhere and let 'em battle each other with books?” But I think the reason we don’t see more interfaith debates is that the various fundamentalists are afraid of _each other_. Much easier to look down with righteous superiority on the evil Secularists and play the victim or the tolerance hypocrisy card when the going gets rough. ---
