Because ISTM that this is precisely what a huge chunk of right-wing bigotry consists of: namely, taking a post-racism ideal like “objective standards” or “level playing field” that all non-racists agree on wanting to be able to attain eventually, and demanding that we act as though we’ve already attained it. Which, conveniently, leaves in place the residual advantages that white people still obtain from the presence of systemic racism, while absolving them from the responsibility to do anything to reduce those advantages and make the system more fair. ---
