We raised her as a puppy, and she was selected as a breeder when she went back. Since we lived with 50 miles of GDB we got to keep her, and bring her back when she went into season and when she was ready to deliver. After she retired she became ours - before that she belonged to guide dogs - and was worth more than I am.
Alas as a breeder she didn’t get to go to the store and everyplace else. Two dogs in her last litter became breeders also. One lives close to us, so we sometimes get to see her. And she has great grandchildren now. But she hardly ever gets frantic - when puppies run up to her in the field she is like “I know all about puppies, go away.”
