# Why are football championship games called "bowls?"

Insofar as the Citrus Bowl Game is concerned, it started off as the Tangerine Bowl and was renamed the Citrus Bowl when the Florida Citrus growers started sponsoring the game. I recall seing a lot of fruit juice commercials during the games. Capital One began sponsoring and attaching its name to the Citrus Bowl game sometime later.
