I immediately thought of the story “The Yellow Wallpaper” where a woman goes insane staring at the bright yellow color of the room she’s confined to. Back in my college days, we were told that yellow provoked anxiety and nervousness. I can’t attest to the validity of that but it led me to trying to look up any information and I got to this website on color theory by the Military Health System. I suppose that’s slightly more authoritative than a family blog but it still comes across as really covering their bases. For blue, though, we have…
The color blue curbs appetite and represents calmness and serenity. It increases productivity, and creates a sense of security and trust in a brand. Most health-related organizations, like insurance organizations and hospitals, use blue in softer tones. Blue is also the color mostly preferred by both male and female consumers.
But each color also has negative attributes applied to it and no hint on how to get the good stuff and avoid the bad.
As a mix of red and yellow, orange is both inviting and creative. It’s the kind of color that really stands out and can be the uniting factor in many different color schemes. It reflects enthusiasm and excitement and shows warmth. It’s also the color of caution.
Other connotations: Despair, anxiety, discomfort
Am I using creative & inviting orange or anxious despair orange? No one knows!
