We’re all friends here. //////////////////// Seriously, I was raised Christian and remarkably for the time was taught that Jesus was a Jew. In my mind that made those guys the Good Guys. I know this is not normative for the middle 20th century in Georgia, but I was blessed with parents were rather progressive for the times. Mother was taught that “The dirty (and that was always applied in this pejorative phrase) Jews killed our Lord and Savior.” She was apparently convinced by my father to rethink her position before I was born. Afterwards, she would tell me stories about how racist and bigoted things were before Jim Crow died but even at that time in the middle 70s, using the word ‘Jew’ as a pejorative verb was relatively common. It was (of course) an action of defrauding someone of something. My somewhat informed opinion about the OP is this: The ancient Jews seem to have always prided themselves about their insularity and in that they are notable if not unique among the other Semitic folks of the heroic era. Those cultural and/or genetic ancestors of modern day Jews deliberately chose not to integrate the other deities into their worship structure and made a big deal of it. They weren’t the first to decide to transition from henotheism to monotheism, but given their relative impact of global culture, I think theirs was the one that caught on over millenia. Christianity wouldn’t exist with Judaism. And it is likely that Islam wouldn’t have existed either, or it certainly wouldn’t have had the patriarchs and prophets borrowed from Judaism and Christianity and therefore would be quite different, in my humble opinion. So, I have to ‘give props’ to Judaism. The first long-lived monotheistic religion (sorry Zoroastrians). Why hated so much around the world? The insular nature of the culture leads to inevitable negative interactions with others who might perceive their insularity as deliberate aloofness. So that might be a significant factor. They become marginalized but instead of becoming street-sweeper they become merchants. And everything comes from that. They became the default merchant-class. Radical elements of change against the aristocracy. Or maybe it is just because their women are beautiful. ---
