Why are "Scary movie" and "Not another teen movie" considered good parody movies? What is so funny about them?

I disagree with putting Not Another Teen Movie in this group. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer had nothing to do with that movie.

“Scream” was a good parody movie.

“Scary movie” was a movie made by the kind of people who didn’t understand that “Scream” was a parody.

Agree 100%. NATM is a great parody movie.

And it worked for me. Comedies have to be pretty well-written for me to even be amused. Heck, I could start a thread “Why are Pauly Shore/Adam Sandler/Rob Schneider movies considered comedies?”

I mentioned before that I laughed my way through NATM even though I’d never seen the movies it was parodying. I just realized that I used to do that with improv comedy, SNL skits, and even back to '60s MAD Magazine parodies.
So a really good parody even stands on its own… not an easy thing to pull off.

…I mean, probably?

All of your complaints are subjective. Millions of people might agree with you. But millions of people don’t. Millions watched, laughed and enjoyed these movies. That’s just how subjective things work. Because…

They are honestly awful in your opinion. Which is fine. But I don’t get “why you don’t get it.” Other people like stuff you don’t. Thats about all there is too it.

I liked both Scary Movie and its sequel. I’m not going to argue that they’re great movies, or even good movies, but they entertained me enough at the time and I don’t regret watching them. I can say the same of Not Another Teen Movie which had Mr. T in it and I pity the fool who doesn’t like Mr. T.

David Zucker directed Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 (the latter of which was written by Jim Abrahams, who was part of the “ZAZ” team, with David and Jerry Zucker); Zucker also wrote Scary Movie V.

See above. The first two Scary Movie films, on the other hand, were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, and written, at least in part, by his brothers Shawn and Marlon.

Look, I’m not blowing my own horn here, but I would like to point out that I do happen to be a fool who was pitied.
