When Slug started illustrating the Straight Dope (way back in the long ago), the CHICAGO READER prided itself on NOT being a G-rated family newspaper, but an “alternative” newspaper. Thus, Slug’s illustrations have always been… well, no, not “pornographic” but certainly have sexual overtones. ---

[Slug does have an art career apart from his Straight Dope cartoons.](http://slugsignorino.com/homepage.htm) He’s not an alter ego, although I can understand why people think Ed or someone else might want to dissociate themselves from Slug’s creations. ---
