Canada has roughly a third of the murder rate as the United States. Even just comparing urban rates between the countries the United States has many more murders per capita than Canada has.

And the U.S. has a fraction of Mexico’s rate.

Maybe murder correlates with temperature? In Canada, it’s too frickin’ cold to go out and murder people.

You might be on to something. New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont, which are states north of where most Canadians live and therefore even colder, are usually states 48-50 in the ranking of most murders per capita by state annually.
