# Why are so many missing persons cases being solved at the bottom of lakes?

The [little girl lost off right offshore from my place on Lake Michigan](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/lake-michigan-takes-another-life/542642/2) in 2010 has still not been found. But it’s nearly 500 feet deep just a few miles from shore here, too.

I still keep a watchful eye out, 12 years later.
