Valteron will not consider acceptable any situation involving Islam other than its complete elimination from the face of the earth. No form of Islamic liberalism or modernism or ecumenism can ever be moderate or liberal or tolerant enough for him. If any Muslim individual or organization claims to support liberal or secular values, he simply assumes that they’re lying in order to lull us into a false sense of security.

Kimtsu, you missed the salient point. Valteron would be full of sympathy and loving-kindness for the suffering women and gays in these countries were it not for the fact that they are themselves Muslim. That trumps everything else, and because of it they deserve whatever happens to them.

Perhaps the answer to both questions is that where ever you go, there are some assholes.
Thank you, Kimstu, for your colourful if somewhat scatological description. I am not without compassion for the millions of women, gays, atheists and freethinkers, religious minority groups and others who must suffer under the benighted hand of Islamofascism in Muslim countries.
But realistically speaking, I doubt if the Muslim world will change in any forseeable future. Indeed, the movement, in countries like Turkey for example, is AWAY from secularism. Groups like the Taliban, who have growing incluence in Pakistan, for example, and other Islamist movements are growing daily.
I want to start by protecting our own back yard, here in the West. If we lose our traditions of democracy, gender equality, freedom, secularism, separation of church and state, freedom of expression, and so on in accomodating Muslim demands, there is not much point in worrying about changing the Islamic world.
And make no mistake about it, if we do not defend our freedoms, they will die the death of a thousand cuts. South Park censors itself. College professors who are not Muslims show “cultural sensitivity” by giving in to the demands of Muslim students who insist that they mumble “Peace be unto him” when they mention Mohammed. Harvard publishes a book about the “Cartoons that Shook the World” but, unbelievably, does not have the balls to publish the cartoons in the book. Polygamists who are clearly violating our laws are not prosecuted.
As Sam Harris has written, when Muslims began flooding into the west, it was as if there had been some sort of rip in the fabric of time and millions of people from the middle ages were flooding into our modern world.
Perhaps the biggest challenge we face in defending the west is the lack of concern by knee-jerk multicultural apologists. For example, it is well known in the international gay community that gay-bashing by Muslim gangs is on the rise in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, London or Berlin.
Some gay groups whose leaders are constipated by political correctness refuse to use the term “Muslim” but refer to “immigrant gangs”. But everyone in the gay community knows what is happening and who is doing it. Bruce Bawer, author of “While Europe Slept” records that his same-sex spouse has been gay-bashed twice in Europe in the last couple of years, both times by Muslim gangs.
Interestingly enough, there have been cases lately where straight lads from the English Defence League in London have come upon Muslim thugs beating up gays outside London pubs and have “sorted them” as the English expression goes. There is a growing LGBT section of the English Defence League, and gays and lesbians in London march with the EDL carrying pink triangles to proclaim their gay pride at EDL demos.
But when this growing problem of gay-bashing is brought up to multicultural apologists, we get the same moral relativist song-and-dance (there are homophobic Christians too) or the “cultural relativity” argument. With that kind of bullshit about what is happening here in the west, you expect me to be concerned about the whole Islamic world and its oppressed millions?
But my comments notwithstanding, I AM concerned about the oppressed in Muslim countries.
Our first line of protection is to seriously limit immigration from Islamic countries. Given that Geert Wilders did so well in yesterday’s Dutch election, going from 9 to 23 seats and possibly holding the balance of power in a coalition, the Netherlands may be the first western country, but hopefully not the last, to limit immigration as a means of self-defense.
But at the same time, I would favour a very generous refugee program to help women, gays, atheists, freethinkers, democrats, secularists, minority religious groups and other victims of the Religion of Peace to flee Islamic countries. Indeed, people of their ilk, like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Salmon Rushdie and other dissidents tend to be courageous, intelligent, high-quality people who care about freedom and democracy and would make ideal immigrants to the west.
