You know, I have to apologize. Upon further reflection, I realize that lekatt is absolutely correct here. No, no, hang on. Hear me out. What applies to one should apply to all. I am personally willing to abide by this rule, and I think we should all take a step back and realize that it CAN work as a board-wide rule.
I hereby propose that it be made a formal rule that NOBODY, no matter who they are, or how clever they think they are, be allowed to link to ANYTHING, no matter how relevant or important it may be, that’s hosted on lekatt’s site.
It’s a bold move, I know, but I firmly believe that it will help make this a better place.
There is a difference between “lying about someone else’s intentions” and “not believing someone when they state their own intentions.” tom~ seems to be doing the latter, not the former. I’m not entirely sure if it’s even possible to do the former - only you can know what your true intentions are. Any statement about your intentions by a third party is obviously going to be conjecture based on your overall behavior, and as such, can only be reasonably read as a reflection on the believability of your stated intention, and therefore not a “lie” about what you really believe.
I know a bit about quantum mechanics, and this sounds like another one of those cases where your definition of a word doesn’t match anyone else’s. You’ve spent a lot posts railing against science and saying that people who trust science are closed-minded materialists, but here you are arguing that quantum mechanics proves your pet theories about god. And somehow, the science that explains the basic structure of the universe at its smallest levels is “not materialism.” It’s possible to get some spiritual implications from quantum mechanics, but you’re making it up as you go along. Quantum mechanics doesn’t demonstrate that god is love, the same way it doesn’t prove vanilla is better than chocolate. It has nothing to do with either subject.
