Great cite, thanks. That article had some primo irony in it, where John Mara explains his reasoning for voting against increasing the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams: “I don’t want to see 8-8 teams in the playoffs.”
Allright, I give in. I guess the consensus is that a roster spot is too valuable to give to a guy who could possibly just do one thing. It hasn’t even been established that a really tall guy would be effective, even if he played for free, did not get injured, and did not take up a roster spot.
I guess seeing Limas Sweed (6’5") of the University of Texas over the past few years just stop, jump up and pluck the ball out of the air playing keep away from the 5’11" corners made me think that if 6’5" is good, what about 6’10"?! I guess the gimmick freak of nature will never work in pro sports. Wait a minute, what about morbidly obese hockey goalies or midget baseball players?
