In the choice between freedom and security, you can’t have both. And not everyone selects freedom. Most Americans do, of course, but that’s a cultural bias, because we live in a prosperous country of plenty. If you live in abject poverty, you may decide that security is better than freedom. Freedom doesn’t put bread on the table. Also, even if you think this article in nutso, why do you try to tarnish all liberals with that? The counter example would be to find some ultra-right wing nutso who thinks that, after we’ve conquered Iraq, we should hit Iran and Turkey next, and then to condemn all conservatives are being “freaking retard.” Once upon a time, it was possible to be “centrist” – an independent, voting for the best candidate regardless of political party or of “left/right” designation. That’s no longer possible as we become more and more polarized, and have knee-jerk reactions (on both sides of the political spectrum.) It started in the Clinton Administration with the farcical impeachment, where the notion of independent thought got tossed out the window and people sided up by party. I weep for the country. ---
