Why aren't more movie studios rereleasing classics in the theater?

Well Disney is bringing The Lion King to theatres for two weeks.

Let’s see how it does.

I agree about the resolution problem. It’s not that difficult to just project a DVD on a large wall. And nearly everyone nowadays seems to have screens large enough that they can sit somewhat close and get just as big a screen as in the theater.

The only reason to watch in the theater is for sentimentality or nostalgic reasons, and in an era where a lot of people will pirate a movie at home rather that watch it in the theaters, those do not seem to be big draws.

Though, honestly, I expect Star Wars to be rereleased in theaters when it goes 3D.

Well, anything is arguable, but I think you’ve got a losing argument on this one. The movie is intended as a prequel, not a reboot. Certain cameos in the film make this crystal clear, if it wasn’t already. So there’s some continuity differences between FC and O:W, that doesn’t change things. O:W had continuity differences with the rest of the series, too. Sabretooth in O:W was pretty much nothing like Sabretooth in the first movie, for instance. Hell, given the reception O:W has garnered, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t eventually relegated to the “non-canon” pile, should the series have any more installments.

That’s not even getting into how many times Prof X has regained use of his legs only to be subsequently re-crippled in the comics. Who’s to say that in the movieverse something similar didn’t happen, giving him use of legs sometime after FC, then taking them away again before X1?

And wow, this is really getting off topic. Sorry for the hijack everyone.
