If I was summoned to jury duty for a case about giving a 700 pound fatso a box of donuts three times a day, I’d vote for acquittal. And wouldn’t change my mind no matter what. It’s sad someone dies too young but the fatty did it to him/herself.
But the thing is that these people are bedridden.

But for the most part they’re in a situation where they are dependent on someone else to shop and cook for them. And if that carer simply supplies them with fatty food, what option do they have?
Especially if the carer is just supplying them with mcdonald’s, say. I think Maccy D gets bashed too much, but I will say that the food is surprisingly unfilling for its calorie content. On a mcDee diet I’d be hungry all the time even as I ate well over the RDA.
I think if you’re married to/living with someone like this, your options are either to feed them, or leave. Forcing them on a diet because they’re essentially your captive is going to make your life a living hell. Not many people have the stomach to torment someone they love day in and day out for months on end, even if it is better for them in the long run. It’s pretty hard to live with a constant level of conflict. It’s also got to be pretty awful for others in the house to “leave him in his own shit” as punishment. Unless you’re planning on moving out, you’re going to have to clean it up eventually. He’ll be extra angry, and in the mean time. . . you have to live with the smell of shit.
That article doesn’t mention whether they looked for those missing fragments in normal-weight people. “We found some blondes in Sweden, therefore being blonde makes you Swedish” is not acceptable logic.
