# Why aren't things like TiVo illegal?

This may be a nit, but allow me to pick it: I rent movies from Amazon using my TiVo, and the 24-hour limit only applies _once I start to watch the movie_. Until I start to watch it, I can keep the movie on my Tivo for up to 30 days after purchase. (At least, those have been the terms for every movie I’ve rented so far.) That’s the only method I use for renting movies anymore. I can’t comment on PPV because I use a [CableCARD](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CableCARD) with my TiVo, and PPV isn’t an option.
