I wish _Survivor_ would start doing this, then I might actually watch.
Sports is just another entry in my big ledger of _Things People Expect Me to Actually Give a Shit About_ , which include other peoples’ weddings, reality TV, and celebrity gossip. At least with hockey, you may get to see someone checked into the glass so hard it shatters.

Because football is boring. Also, TV is boring – the only stuff I really watch on it is the news, Conan, the Simpsons, and random PBS shows, but I don’t watch any of those regularly because I can’t bother to schedule my life around TV. I like reading things better.
I should be doing homework, though.

I only like college football. I watch it avidly and love it. It’s kind of a huge tradition here.
I didn’t even know who was playing in the Super Bowl until about four minutes before it started. And still couldn’t care less. (yawn)

Because NBC has successfully counterprogrammed for me with three straight (sic) _Queer Eye_s. I will, however, switch over to CBS at 10 for _All-Star Survivor_.

Because my TV is broken. Literally. My son broke it last week.
I’m not a football fan, anyway. But. **Eutychus** is, and I was going to watch the game with him (well, I’d watch here in Michigan, he’d watch in Rhode Island, and we’d chat together). He’s also a Patriots fan.
So, instead, he’s watching, we’re chatting, and he’s telling me when good stuff happens. Like the whole Janet Jackson thing. Yow. That would have been entertaining to watch.

I am not watching the Superbowl because:[ul][_]American football bores me.[_]I don’t have cable, and hooking up the antenna would be too much of a chore.[_]I couldn’t see the commercials anyways, because of government regulations in my country.[_]I’m on the Straight Dope, a far more important activity.[_]I should be working on my DVD authoring instead of cruising the Straight Dope.[_]I have to go get my laundry out of the dryer.The name of the event reminds me that I should probably clean my toilet.[/ul]

Because I have absolutely 0 interest in some football game. Also, I bought the DVD for _Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town_ just so I had something interesting to watch. However since I found out Queer Eye was going to be on, I watched CCiZT this afternoon and will watch QE while playing on the internet.

**CanvasShoes** , “WiFi” is a compatibility trademark dreamed up by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance to label networking gear–computers, radios, base stations, etc–that uses the “IEEE 802.11x” standard for [wireless network communications](http://www.tssg.org/articles/archive/2002/20020821-1.htm). Any device bearing that mark can theoretically\* communicate with any other device bearing the mark, to establish a connection to the internet.
I was not aware that it had slipped into popular usage as a generic term.
Part of my job involves documenting this stuff…

Wow…I’m glad to see that there are at least a few other people that share opinions similar to mine on the topic of what you’re supposed to care about vs. what you actually care about.
A girl came into the theatre where I work today and was asking (for a research paper) the employees that were scheduled to work at this time how they felt about missing the Super Bowl. Though I was going to be able to make it home on time for kick off, my response was something like, “I don’t really care about the Super Bowl. Who’s playing, anyway? The Cubs and somebody else, right?”
I have gotten to see a couple of the commercials, which always seem to be worth the time. Earlier I sat in front of the TV reading while the game was on, but put down the paper as soon as the commercials appeared. Kind of a reversal on normal viewing for me.

I was in the car with my SO… driving, I swear! We had made a visit to my grandmother and were heading back to our side of town. We don’t really get into sports and such, and seeing my grandmother happy felt really good. She’s been lonely since my grandfather passed away last October.

I have never understood the rules of NFL football, and have not got the attention span to watch a 2 hour game with three hours of commercials. I can find anything more or less productive, to do wih time than to watch four and five hour games.
My BIL watches any sports game that is on when he waches telly, anything. Even for teams he would not support IRL, I don’t understand it.

I don’t watch any sport where the “local” team buys a player from out of town/state. Except for the world cups. I really like soccer and basketball at the highschool level.

Like most the others who have responded here, I’m not into sports,and I especially detest football. I hated it as a kid and I never understood how it was supposed to be played. I also hated all the kids who liked to play football, and they picked on me because I didn’t like it and didn’t know how to play it, so this just deepened my hatred for the game even more. As I got older I realized that a lot of people who like football are loud, obnoxious louts who paint up their faces and their chests in their favorite team’s colors, they use the game as an excuse to drink beer and get drunk and make complete asses of themselves, and when their favorite team loses it’s the end of the world (big generalization here, I know not _all_ football fanatics are like this). It’s the culture behind the most rabid of football fans that I fail to understand or appreciate.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only guy who hates football (at least some of you _are_ guys, I hope!). I’ve always resented the male stereotype in which one must enjoy football and do lots of other “manly” stuff, but I’ll save my vitriol on that topic for another thread.
