Another way the budget airlines can save money is having the cabin crew prepare the cabin between flights. This would typically involve cleaning the cabin, and if you look at the mess left after a flight they’re welcome to it.
Ryan-Air are trying to reduce the time that it takes to clean the plane interiors by introducing leather seats ( easier to keep clean ) , doing away with seat-back pockets and asking people to take their rubbish away with them.
Except for the backseat pocket, JetBlue did this. All of their seats are leather (or leather-like, anyway) and prior to landing they walk through the cabin three or four times with trashbags asking people to put their trash in the bag at that time.
Yeah… Love’s closer to Dallas, but Southwest got screwed in that deal anyway. The Dallas and Ft. Worth city governments got a couple of laws passed, the infamous Wright and Shelby Amendments (amendments to what, I do not know…)
These ridiculous laws prohibit any carrier flying out of Love field from flying large jets anywhere but Texas and the bordering states. Planes below a certain number of seats can go wherever they want, but the seat limit is something like 50.
So… in a nutshell, my parents can fly Southwest out of Hobby in Houston straight to Kansas City for my cousin’s wedding, while I’ll have to book 2 flights- one to Tulsa, then one to Kansas City, OR book a vastly more expensive flight out of DFW Airport on one of the other carriers.
Blatantly anti-competitive and absolutely asinine legislation, if you ask me.
Don’t think it’s just airlines.
That guy staying next door to you in your hotel probably paid a hundred bucks less than you. Hotel prices are totally and entirely arbitrary- especially walk in prices- and have a lot to do with whatever is going through the clerk’s head at the time.
The hotel is probably using the same yield management program as the airlines .
The funny thing is that even sven seems to be a clerk in exactly this position. sven, did I ever tell you how amazingly good looking you are, and just out of curiosity, what hotl do you manage over there in Cali’?
