# Why can't I get porn sites to work on my i-6 anymore?

Ok, now, I’m serious. Two days ago I stopped being able to get the little videos on porn sites to play. I can get to the sites, but none of the movies play. I figure there must be some sort of setting I can fool with, but so far I can’t figure out what it would be. I thought that i-phones couldn’t get viruses so I’m hoping that’s not the problem. I wouldn’t know how to get rid of it anyway. I’ve turned the thing off and back on. No help. What am I supposed to do with this thing, make phone calls? Read the news? Dopers, I really need help.

A couple of questions to help debug this issue:
1. What iPhone do you have?
2. What version is your phone’s operating system?
3. What mobile browser are you using to watch the content?
4. Have you considered going to another website to see the content? Maybe you could look through photos instead of load videos?

With net neutrality rules abolished, the phone companies and ISPs now impose an annual cap on streaming porn, because it takes up such a large proportion of traffic and generates no revenue for them. But the limit is very high, it’s equivalent to about 900 hours at standard resolution. How much porn have you been watching? I think most providers have an appeal process if you can explain why you’re watching so much porn. Otherwise, you may just have to wait until January for your annual allowance to reset.

I’m using an i-6 with the latest version of the ios. It uses Safari although I believe that there’s an Explorer option someplace on the phone. I’ve checked several sites and have the problem with all of them. Incidentally, if the yearly limit were 900 hours, I’d have to watch over 2 1/2 hours a day. If I see an hour a week, that’s a lot for me. And my desktop - connected to the same ISP - doesn’t have this problem. Any other ideas, Dopers?

Have you tried running over wifi?
Is it something to do with Flash? Do other sites with embedded videos (Youtube, newspaper websites) work, or only “adult” sites?

You can download Firefox or Chrome or any number of other browsers on to your phone. Have you tried those?

I’ve determined that is something to do with my Safari, because accessing those sites through Firefox (just downloaded) or Edge (just downloaded) is not a problem.

Are you on WiFi? I ask because my iPhone has a setting that prevents streaming unless connected to a WiFi network. That function exists basically to protect people from themselves because, if you exceed your data allocation for the month, they basically want your firstborn child as payment.

Since ios11 was sent out My iPhone periodically stops doing select things (even on WiFi). Everything else will work except that action. Things that sometimes stop working include watching videos, listening to podcasts, accessing notes,etc.
Solution: Reboot the phone. I have to do this about once a week. As far as I am concerned, iOS 11 is worse than windows Me.

It might be a Safari-only problem. Download Google Chrome and use that.

Sorry, OP - I thought it was more obvious it was a joke when I wrote it. But in GQ I shouldn’t have tried to be a smartass so early in the thread before your question was sorted. (I enjoyed the slightly worried skepticism from manson, though.:))

This happens when your operating system is out of date. If you upgrade your OS to the latest version the issue should go away.
This has happened to me a few time on both my iPad and iPhone on many video sites, porn or otherwise. Since they can’t directly force you to upgrade, my suspicion is that Apple deliberately kills video feeds as a harmless way to incentivize you. If you go to the Apple site, the first thing they tell you is to update your software.
Every time I’ve updated, the problem was instantly resolved.

My own brain keeps finding ways to manipulate me into doing stuff, so I guess it would be hypocritical for me to be annoyed at Apple for doing the same.
