# Why can't I load Java applets?

I have Windows XP, Internet Explorer version 6. No java loads on my computer. What’s going on?

In IE, go to Tools / Internet Options / Custom Level…to what are you Java Permissions set?

Due to legal difficulties, Microsoft no longer distributes their Virtual Machine with Windows. You can still download the installer from several (non-MS) websites. You can also use [Sun’s](http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp) version.

Does it say anything in the bottom status bar when you try a page with Java?

JuanitaTech, I see no “Custom level” in Internet Options?

Smackfu, it doesn’t say anything in the status bar when I try to load a Java page other than “Done”.

Number… I’m gonna download Sun’s version.

Sorry, I forgot a tab! It should be Tools / Internet Options / **Security** / Custom Levels.

Again, I’m so sorry about the omission.
