It seems to me that this seemingly simple idea would get complicated fast when figuring out how to mesh it with how Uber and Lyft works. Does a driver then have to sign up for that drive ahead of time? This limits their ability to pick rides in the time just before, how much depends on the traffic in that area and possible other rides. If they do sign up, and then have to cancel for whatever reason, who’s responsible for figuring out a replacement? The driver, Uber/Lyft, the customer?
Yeah, even though they supposedly offer reservations, it just doesn’t work with Uber/Lyfts normal mode of operation. When you send out a request, Uber/Lyft finds all the drivers that happen to be close by at that exact moment. There’s no way to predict who that will be even 30 minutes prior, let alone the day before.
