# Why carpeting in bathrooms?

Yeah, _House Hunters_ on HGTV made me wonder why none of my houses had crown molding :D.

Still, odds are that if you buy a home of a certain age in Minnesota you’ll find hardwood floors under the carpeting. The house I grew up in (built c. 1910) had maple floors, and houses built in the 1940s generally had red oak.

Our current house was built sometime prior to 1900 and had crappy pine boards painted dark brown, too soft to be useful. We still ripped up the carpeting and put down new flooring. Carpeting and dogs are not a good mix.

I think carpeted bathrooms are stupid as well, I’m always flooding my nans.
