Why celebrate EVERY year?

I meant, “No” idea. Only one cup of coffee and can’t proof read yet.

BTW, why isn’t there a spell check on this thing?

AudreyK, yeah, sorry. my post sounded more snippy than i had intended. what i meant is that peer pressure plays a huge role in holiday celebration. you said that one isfree to opt out of holiday celebrating.

by the same token (pun definitely intended), a kid is fee to not hit a jay in the playground. but peer pressure still looms large.

Today my husband & I are celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary.

Why do we celebrate every year? I think its a cycle thing. We went through a whole year and are back at the same date when something special happened.

Today we will get together with our family and reminisce about our wedding, when we were so young, and we remember the people who attended when they were so young. We look at our loving family and thank our lucky stars for eachother.

(I’ve been married for more than half my life - YIKES!)

.
I celebrated when I was one billion seconds old.

Hmm…

Let’s see if you go back far enough you can find the person who noticed, “Hey, when the moon is like this and the sun stays out for this long, it’s usually the time we have lots of food to eat. I think we should make note of this. BECAUSE WE CAN EAT!”

I would think that most annual celebrations started in this way, but IANACA.

I am! I love to celebrate Halloween the entire month of October.

My take on the OP would call for a redefinition of the true meaning of holidays and not the superficial What Do I Get Out Of It? childish mentality.
