I’m not going to explain what I was looking for when I came across [this](http://www.wolfeborobible.com/prom.html) – suffice to say it had nothing to do with Christianity, adolesence, or prommery. ---

That has to be one of the screwiest/scariest things I’ve ever read. Does God want you to go to prom??? I don’t think God gives a rat’s red ass if you go to prom, Susie. Pretty sure he’s got bigger things on his mind. FYI, I’ve just asked God if he wants me to eat that pint of Hagen Daz chocolate chocolate chip ice cream in the freezer. He said yes and to be sure and top it with some hot fudge and loads of whipped cream. I must go and do the Lord’s bidding now. ---

Hmmmm… I went to my high school prom. There was some drinking goin’ on out in the parking lot. Boys and girls engaged in lascivious dancing. I didn’t get pregnant though. Guess I was lucky. 😃 ---

Yeah, but believe it or not, there are some sects against dancing, period. I don’t get it, but oh well. Trust me, I’ve seen worse. These are the types who probably think EVERYTHING that is fun is bad, or anything secular. They see evil everywhere. Quite frankly, I think they’re the ones with dirty minds. ---

Pretty sure he’s got bigger things on his mind [/QUOTE] I believe there’s validity in examining one’s actions, even small everyday ones, as being of God rather than blindly going with one’s feelings or “urges”, but presumably you can also trust God to keep you from escalating from a polka to the horizontal mambo. God’s pretty strong. I know I’m harshing on the lightheartedness but your ice cream example struck home as food addicts turn to a higher power to help them resist the compulsion. ---

Our “prom” was a dinner, some party games and then a trip to the skating rink. (It was Christian music night.) There’s an old joke which goes along with this sentiment: \*Why don’t Baptists ever have sex standing up? Yep-- that was them. Anything done for pleasure’s sake alone is a sin. Any gathering, event or activity in which praising Jesus is not the focus is a sin. No music, except for Christian music (and no Christian rock, because someone passing by might hear it and think you were listening to _real_ rock) no movies, and no books. The vast majority of the mothers of kids who attended my school were fat. Why? Because “banquets” were the only acceptable form of social gathering outside of church. Exercise, while not forbidden, is extremely uncomfortable if you have to wear the accepted clothing, which is a skirt that passes below the knee. (I wouldn’t want to jog in that, either.) Swimming was acceptable as long as you wore a one-piece suit, but “mixed bathing” was strictly prohibited. (Meaning that males and females couldn’t swim together.) ---

The sect (Church of Christ) I was raised in banned all forms of dancing, as well as the wearing of short pants and mixed bathing for both sexes. I did all of those things anyway. ---

Here’s the gas thing – In the scripture that was quoted as to condemn dancing, God is plainly in favor of it!
