They don’t see it, they don’t understand. Look at the interviews that are being done now that the election is over. They just don’t get that they are number one on the list. They will be deported, and it will destroy the country, but Maga does not care.

And then once Maga purges them, black people will take their place. That’s what they mean by make America great again.

They want it to go back to when they were the masters and black people were slaves, and it was just the two of us. Once again slavery in the 2020’s means forced servitude through prison. That is why they want the police to have full immunity.

The police will be able to kill black people with no justice or rule of law. Anyone they don’t kill gets forced labor, aka slavery.

> But remember folks- trump cant "fix’ inflation. In fact no one can- the best they can do it try to moderate it some to lessen it.

Right; incumbents everywhere have been blamed for inflation. But America is “special” in that the majority think fixing inflation means bringing prices back down, which isn’t going to happen. Hence why the biden administration got no credit for bringing inflation under control.

And why there is nothing trump could now do to “fix” inflation without wrecking the economy. But of course in his case it won’t matter; it will be the deep state’s fault, or the _Pravda_ inflation rate will be 0.1%

(The other special thing was somehow blaming Biden for bird flu, and hence eggs becoming the new currency benchmark, but that’s a side grumble)

I am fully onboard with your points 2,3 and 4, as pure republican bullshit.
But that does not invalidate that a great deal of the electorate had concerns about immigration.
From my perspective, it was very difficult to get decent background information on this subject. And my normal go to in this situation; the Economist was not kind to Democrats on the subject.
Point being Trump is a piece of shit I could never vote for.
But we just can not just hand wave, immigration and inflation away.
And it seems a fair bit on of the normally reliable Democratic electorate felt the same.

Regardless of my side of a debate, I find it useful to truly hear what the opposition says… and not to reverse engineer their motivations based on my beliefs.
It seems to me - inflation is the likely answer

Since the problem is in their heads it can’t be “solved”, either.

The waters seem so troubled by immigration I am having a hard time determining which way is up.
Even what I would normally consider rational sources are all over the place.
But on the inflation issue, I can speak from personal experience.
I was told, it was irrelevant, that it was it was not ‘core’, that my salary was going up even more - when none of those true.
It became one of those - do you believe me, or your lying eyes issues.
Before you crucifie me, I voted for Harris - I will never get over Jan 6th.
But I live in a very red bit of the world - and you asked how people got to this point

They got that way by being stupid, ignorant or evil. They voted for people who will make the economy and inflation _worse,_ not better. “But inflation” is no excuse. The main differences is that now it’ll be much worse, and they will deserve _zero_ sympathy for the consequences. If a Trump voter ends up homeless or deported because of their vote then that’s just karma; they decided to try to harm as many people as possible and were either too idiotic to consider they’d be caught in the blast radius or too stupid to even know that was what they were doing.

If there’s a silver lining to this cloud, it will be many Trump voters in a few years’ time, saying, “Well, inflation was bad under Biden. But it’s way worse under Trump. He never said that we’d be paying his tariffs, but it turns out that we are!” And the Republicans will be unelectable for years.

This. I’m always surprised that someone I’ve known all my life is a Trump supporter, but the ones who are, are social conservatives with a wedge issue, often abortion. Most of my Hispanic friends fall under this description.

The one thing I’m sure of is that people won’t admit that they were wrong.

There could be (and likely will be) a turn away from trump, but it will be in other terms then these IMO, where people can describe it in a way where their vote for trump still made rational sense. Hence, I don’t know how long it will make the GOP unelectable, it depends what it is.

Yeah, no, sadly, it won’t play out like that. The inflation will worsen for sure, but rather than blaming Trump, his voters will find some way to blame Democrats for “obstructing” Trump and say inflation would be going way down if it weren’t **the Democrats preventing Trump from fixing the problem.**

That appears to presuppose that I have no idea whatsoever about Hispanic priorities in this election. Not true. I’ve seen the polling, just as others have.

I’m simply commenting on the single largest factor that _drove_ those priorities.

We have a friend who is a Mexican national and is a DACA. Her husband is Mexican American. Her husband voted for Trump, with her support, because they want the Venezualans that live in their neighborhood deported. Also her husband said he would never vote for a woman.

There’s a whole lot prejudices built into those decisions.

Hoo boy… welp, so much for calling them “Dreamers”. Or rather, the “dream” is that she’s safe because he’s an American and for Trump.

BTW there you see a wee bit of a hint as to why our half of the hemisphere never managed to get its act together and was easy picking for strongmen and the hegemon. Too busy helping put down my neighbor instead of standing up with him.

(And that Mexican American must be thrilled that he was not a reguar Mexican who had to choose between TWO women in their presidential race this year.)

It isnt- but we already went thru this nonsense 4 years ago- millions of dollars spent- and nothing. They aint no significant voter fraud. There hasnt even been any serious allegations of it this year (or in 2020 to be honest).
